Do I need to pay back Company the buy out amount spent?

There was a buy out involved when I transferred to my current company. They paid for my three weeks notice so that I can join them immediately. Due to personal reasons, I had to resign after two and a half months. My contract does not state any repayment for the buy out when I leave the company. And they confirmed that they do not practice the concept of bonds. But on my exit interview, HR highlighted that there might be a need to pay the buy out amount that they spent on me. Do I need to pay it, even if it is not stated on my contract?

Please refer to the buy out clause you have agreed to and the terms and condition at your new employment contract carefully. If it is not stated on your contract and there is no verbal agreement, the claim to pay back Company the buy out amount may be void.
