no pay leave & prorate annual leave enquiry

I have a question on no pay leave and annual. I am working in a foreign bank for less than 3months. Recently I applied for half day of no pay leave. When I returned from the leave,I received a letter from HR saying that my no pay leave will affect the proportion of my annual leave.

Employer may grant employee unpaid leave if the employee is not eligible for annual leave. Employer can deduct an employee's salary for unpaid leave taken. As for prorated annual leave, employee’s entitlement is in proportion to the completed months of service for that year (i.e. employee serves for minimum 3 months). This is applicable to employee on probation.

Generally, periods of no pay leave should not be included when computing annual leave entitlement. You may want to consult your HR on Company’s no pay leave policy.
